Friday's Too Good Not To Share: September 18, 2020

Every Friday, I share other great content (with some added context) to dive into over the weekend.

Weekend challenge: Relisten to your favorite album from your senior year of high school.

Ten Years Later, Mark Zuckerberg Is Still Trying to Overcome ‘The Social Network’

“You know what's cooler than a million dollars? A billion dollars.” - Justin Timberlake to the guy from Now You See Me who is missing an “i” in his name.

I’m old enough to remember when a ‘poke’ was a thing on Facebook. When I first joined, The Facebook (not a typo) was limited to college students only and it would show which dorm you last logged in from (creepy). But it took off (understatement of the year). The origin story of Facebook is captured in the movie, “The Social Network.” The movie gives a dramatized account of the founding story of the now $710 billion company.

In tandem with that growing influence, Zuckerberg’s public persona is now so heavily managed that you’d have a better time deciphering the feelings of the AI assistant he once built to run his house than determining what he’s really thinking. Maybe that’s why Aaron Sorkin’s version of the ambitious boy hacker still clings to the public’s imagination. The more Zuckerberg has been shrouded in corporate armor, the more people have turned to his silver-screen depiction for clues.

And in those terms, David Fincher’s masterpiece has felt all the more relevant; spiritually, if not factually, correct. More than anything, in a 10-year vacuum of personality, the better story won.

Allen Iverson | Ep 46 | ALL THE SMOKE Full Episode | SHOWTIME Basketball

Bubba Chuck is more than a legend. He represents an inflection point in American history. I remember hearing about Allen Iverson first as a football player. We’re from the same area in Virginia and what he did on the football field sounded like a myth. As most people from the area will tell you, he was a better football player than basketball player at the time.

He went on to be the icon that crossed over the Michale Jeffery Jordan, stepped over Tyronn Lue, and release the first decent rap album by a basketball player.

One thing you can always expect from A.I. is the truth. I loved this episode and I know you will too. You’ll get a much more intimate look at the man who made the arm sleeve cool in the NBA.

Distributing the COVID Vaccine: The Greatest Logistics Challenge Ever

I love a good Wendover video.

Pay special attention to the late October/early November timeframe. That is when we might see the first vaccines capable of providing protection against COVID-19 approved for use.

Shipping and delivering one dose of the vaccine to one person is not that hard. Doing this for 5 billion people will be the greatest logistical challenge the world has ever seen. Especially since the first vaccines may require two doses, doubling the problem. Oh, and the vaccines will need to be transported in a temperature-controlled way just to up the ante ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Learn more about the challenges here. [15 mins]

Leave today better than yesterday ✌️.
