Vacationing Well

I’m back and reenergized!

Here’s some lessons learned from the much needed vacation I took last week:

  1. Birkenstocks are the “it” vacation shoe. I saw them everywhere and on everyone of all ages. They’re a versatile shoe, especially for warm weather travel. They can be causal, dressed up, hotel slippers, and your beach shoe. They literally do no wrong and are in style right now.
  2. Wake up early while on vacation. Look, I know many of you scoffed at that sentence but hear me out. When you wake up early while on vacation you gain so much more of the day. You can literally workout, eat breakfast, and do a day excursion all before noon. That’s priceless. Waking up early allows you to fit so much more into your day and it also provides the opportunity to take more naps (which we should all prioritize).
  3. Plan your day around your meals. The best thing you can for yourself while on vacation is to plan to eat as many delicious meals as possible. Don’t settle for what’s nearby or convenient. Only go for the delectable. You’ll have the best conversations over good meals and make the best memories. It is also a great way to really experience a culture.
  4. Dress for the tan lines you deserve. If you’re traveling tropical, you’re going to get some color on your skin. Plan accordingly. If you leave it up to chance, you’ll end up with some weird gradations on your body that will be hilarious to everyone except you. I learned this lesson the hard way…
  5. Travel for adventure. Choose at least one activity per trip that challenges you (in a safe way). You’ll gain a lot from that experience and often get to see sights you would have missed otherwise. For us, we swam with manta rays and did the Lanikai Pillbox Hike on this trip. Both were magical and a great way to burn off calories from the many malasadas we ate.

If you haven’t done so yet, take some time to get away. We all need to recharge every now and then.
