Friday's Too Good Not To Share: July 31, 2020

Beyoncè and Basketball are Back Baby!

Every Friday, I share other great content (with some added context) to dive into over the weekend.

It’s a bunch of billionaire talk today. Unintended, but some good info.

Billionaire Robert Smith Explains The 2% Solution To Structural Racism In America

Summarizing an already short video, structural racism is also economic. Some stats:

  • There are 4700 banks in America. 21 are black owned.
  • Those 21 black-owned banks have less than $5b in assets. The total amount of assets in commercial banks in the US is $20 trillion (with a T).

What would happen if all of the major corporations put 2% of their net income in those banks every year over 10 years?

Episode #41- Melvin Nunnery - Another Black BILLIONAIRE!

Ever heard of Melvin Nunnery? Me neither. But he sold 30% of his company SchollyMe for $1.5 Billion. In this hour-long sitdown, you learn more about his story and his business deals. I enjoyed learning more about him and soaking up his wisdom.

The first 7 minutes dive deep into his billion-dollar deal and his mindset during the negotiation.

Naval’s Recommended Reading

Naval is full of modern-day wisdom. He receives my highest praise because he’s applied this wisdom to great success in both business and investing (yes, he’s a billionaire too). But his true calling is to share these insights with the world.

I think he’ll go down as our generation’s Charlie Munger.

He is working with Eric Jorgenson to put all of his thoughts and reflections into an almanack (like Munger) and you can follow along on the site Navalmanack.com.

Within it, he has a recommended reading list full of good reads on science, philosophy, and spirituality.

Must Read: I wanted to point out a very short and specific piece from Scott Adams (politics aside) on “The Day You Become a Better Writer” that was on his list.

Take 1 minute to read through it and you’ll instantly become a better writer and communicator afterward.

Leave today better than yesterday ✌️.

P.S. Beyonce is back with Black Is King. Dive deep into the beautiful Seattle Kraken’s branding (NHL’s newest team). Uncle Snoop has stories for days - tune into his Breakfast Club Interview. LeBron FTW.
