Monday Motivation - Creating Rules for Your Life 9.29.25

My brother and I talk every morning. One of the cheat codes I have in life is to have access to the mind of an incredible leader daily for shaping my ideas.

One question that came up today was, "What are your rules for life?"

These rules have to be simple mantras that can be remembered in the moments of our daily lives that require us to make decisions. They have to both encompass our values and guide our actions for them to be effective.

After thinking for a bit, I realized that I have 3 rules.

  • Rule 1. Live your life in a way that you have to make the fewest apologies to yourself or others.
  • Rule 2. Your work is finished when you are proud of it. Until then, it isn't.
  • Rule 3. Live a life where the people that know me best, respect me the most.

Rule #1 is all about living within integrity. We all make mistakes so we will have to apologize often in life, but you don't want to keep apologizing for the same things. To know right and do different is sin. I want to avoid continuously apologizing to myself or other people. This is also what pushes me to live an interesting life, do interesting things, and be interested in people. You will never have to apologize for it.

Rule #2 is about knowing when to move on. Set your standard of proud and work until that is reached. If it meets that standard, you'll always be able to accept the outcome.

Rule #3 is about ensuring that I'm one of those people that when you get to know them more, they become even better people. It's very easy to look beautiful from a distance. That’s why most people say never meet your heroes.

These are the simple rules that work for me.
