I wish I could remember where I got this quote from. The gist is a reminder of the role passion and enthusiasm play in competition.

If you want to be the best in the world at what you do, you have to live it. You can’t just like it. It has to be part of your identity—part of who you are at your core. It has to be how you see yourself in the world. It has to be part of your calling. You have to be ALL IN on being the best.

Imagine trying to compete with someone who’s all in while you’re just doing it because you can. That’s why artists always win over corporate mercenaries. If you’re doing it for the check, you’re a mercenary. You enjoy the money more than the mission. Your output and outcomes will pale in comparison to someone who’s obsessed with the mission.

You won’t add that extra polish. You won’t take your time with the parts of the process no one sees. You’ll go through the motions, but you won’t create momentum.
