Clock In

Work for yourself for one hour every single day.

It’s time to clock in. The first job you should clock into every morning is yourself.

If you’re having trouble consistently making time for self, then wake up earlier. This is non-negotiable. Before you show up for anyone else, show up for yourself.

Some common excuses and my responses to them:

  1. “After a long workday, I’m tired and just want to relax.” Work for yourself in the mornings before you go to work for someone else. One of the better ways to relax is to sleep.
  2. “Well, it’s hard for me in the mornings because I have a lot of stuff to do in order to get out the door.” Do less stuff in the morning. Do more the night before.
  3. “I don’t sleep well at night so early mornings are hard.” Don’t care, wake up earlier. You aren’t in a relationship with your body. You are your body. Tell it what to do and it’ll get in line. You are in control of the decision of when to wake up.
  4. “I own my own business so I already spent my time working for myself.” The devil is a lie. You’re working on your business, not on yourself. There’s a difference and you should never conflate the two. Make time for self.
  5. “My family needs me so I put them first.” They do need you and they need you to be your best self. Working for yourself every day is the absolute best thing you can do for them. It’ll allow you to show up better for them over a longer period of time. Also, I said to spend an hour, not the entire day working for yourself.

Clock in today.
